Actually, I have a little story about my encounter with this picture at the D'Orsay.
I was walking around, and I saw a knot of school kids (field trip, I presume), and there was this one geeky kid wearing a creepy, lurid grin lurching from the vicinity of the crotch shot. I just had to know the genesis of this, walked into the alcove he had just emerged from, and voilà.
Oh: And maybe someone can help me. There's this one mural-sized canvas there: It really impressed me, and I took a picture of it, brought it home, cleaned it up (e.g., adjusted for "pincushion"), and it's now a desktop. But I searched the Net, and the art section of a community college library (incl. a book on the D'Orsay), and no findee.
