It occurred to me even before I began it that this snail occupied a role visually similar to the snail in Dali's Sublime Moment of '39. I personally make that to be his last greatest painting. Where do you draw the line?
I agree that Sublime Memory is a great painting, and that his best work came before this. What happened? I wish I knew more about it, but at some point he became something of a parody of himself. He still did some good work that anyone would be happy to paint - ha! I'll take it! -- but nothing as incendescent as the early stuff.

I like to draw a line underneath a 9 or a 6, so you can tell which is which.
