This shows why I cannot ever go to school. At an orientation I willingly attended on adult education programs at the University of Washington, I completely tuned out the speaker and drew nonsense like this on the brochure. I are a hopeless case.
Best laff I've had all day. I thought I was the only one driven to pervert any printed materials I'm given. Worse yet, I TEACH college - you should see what I'm drawing while they take my exams.
There was a story on NPR this morning about doodlers. You are in good (famous!) company-- like presidents, captains of industry, etc. Maybe you should develop these "drawings" and sell them somehow. At least consider it...
Around the 15th or 16th century (I´m not good at History) both Spain and Portugal decided to divide the world they were discovering overseas between them, and only them. Those stupid portuguese people passed up the oportunity to be the sole masters of the world. (Magellan was portuguese, and Christopher Columbus was denied by Portugal the finacial suport to try to discover the route to India by West, since they were about to find it by East). Nowadays the only thing we can be proud of is that we can speak and write a little bit of english...
I had an education professor angrily confront me after a class one fine afternoon to ask me why I was drawing instead of paying attention to his unending lecture. I was spared because I had some "notes" woven around the drawings...
I really think you should be designing their brochures...
Don't worry about it. Brains are overrated. Every monkey's got a brain! It's only the gifted that are blessed with the ability to tune out and turn on. You should thank Santa you have the ability to transcend the commonplace. The world is old news.

ReplyDeleteMy wife and other friends are teachers/artists. I'm sure they'd love to have you in their classes.
ReplyDeleteOther non-art stuff--encode the lecture/discussion/whatnot into drawing . . . Embed words and phrases or whatever works. . .
Or try a program that recognizes & gives college credits for life experience. I.e. art galore.
Anyone who's creating stuff for years has been on a big ungraded independent study.

The thought of you attending 'orientation' evokes images of doctors twirling and pushing you in different directions.
