THE AGE OF CAKE VERIFIED
A knock on the door. The slow shuffle across the living room. The creak of hinges. The flood of sunlight. Three youthful faces shining like Baldwin apples. A cake. The familiar glow of unreality. The inscription. The Stranger. The wish I'd combed my hair this morning of all mornings.

ReplyDeleteOh Jim your hair and its state of disarry or neatness matters not - for those 3 delivery folk standing with arms proudly outstretched bearing you their special (and,one hopes with the check for 5K somewhere among them), they were basking in the reflected glory of honest to goodness, homegrown, contemporary American genius!! Bout time, too. Kudos to Frank and to you of course, though I imagine Frank'll be grabbing some of that glory as creations are wont to do.

ReplyDeleteGenius indeed! Jim, here's question for you. Do you remember the old Reader's Guide to Jim#4 you offered way back when, through Jimland Novelties? It was described as being 12 pages long in the ad. The one I received many years ago was 7 pages long. Was that a mistake or intentional? I never really cared, but I"m curious now.
