I really like how what seems at first glance to be a bucolic scene of an artist at work in nature is undermined by the gnarly details in the tree and that incredible wiggly line. It's like Frank's awareness of his surroundings is distilled into the rendering technique--something that poor Frank himself can't quite manage, judging by his sketch.
