About Me
- Name: Jim Woodring
- Location: Seattle, Washington, United States
I was born in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California and enjoyed an exciting childhood full of poetry and paroniria among the snakes, rats and tarantulas of that enchanted realm. I eventually grew into an inquisitive bearlike man who has had three exciting careers; garbage collector, merry-go-round-operator and cartoonist. Some of my work is collected in THE BOOK OF JIM, THE FRANK BOOK and SEEING THINGS (all published by Fantagraphics) and in various toys, fabrics, prints and urban legends. Thank you for your interest.

Aleluya! the bear killed Santa!
Merry X-Mas! Nadolig Llawen!
I see no real remorse here. I think he was just maced. With Christmas mace. Smells like crap-ass fruitcake, or perhaps a traditional Swedish fish pie, right in your fucking eyes.
Oh Bear! What Hath thou DONE!
I once saw Jesus forgive a bear in his pajamas. How the bear sinned in those pajamas is a matter still open to much clerical debate.
I believe it was in his interview with you, that Robert Williams talked about a painting of an Indian going through a Rite of Passage ritual that he found disturbing yet compellingly iconic.
Congratulations, you've created that with this painting.
It's the ultimate guilt fetish about male destructive force, that one might find for sale at the big man shop.
This is what Steven King's novel, The Shining is really about.
Well, thanks for that, anonymous, but you may feel differently when you see the entire picture, if you ever do see it. I mean, I'm sure you're busy.
Please note the tips of Jesus' toes in the lower left. There's more, much more. Whether that's good or not is another question entirely. The picture will be road-tested this Christmas.
Woops!I thought that was just someone that had been destroyed in a fight with the bear, I didn't know it was specifically HIM. So I guess Tom Dougherty above nailed it precisely, pun intended.
Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait and see what the final deal is. Unless I'm busy.
It's a potent image, regardless of it's context.
Big fan of your work, BTW.
ow
This is a beautiful image.
