I was born in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California and enjoyed an exciting childhood full of poetry and paroniria among the snakes, rats and tarantulas of that enchanted realm. I eventually grew into an inquisitive bearlike man who has had three exciting careers; garbage collector, merry-go-round-operator and cartoonist. Some of my work is collected in THE BOOK OF JIM, THE FRANK BOOK and SEEING THINGS (all published by Fantagraphics) and in various toys, fabrics, prints and urban legends. Thank you for your interest.

Just picked up the black n' white Frank and Shaws set at Comic Relief here in Berkeley along with the DVD and let me say that I expect to sleep soundly tonight for the first time in years.What a fine service you have done your fans!These little fellows cast a pall over the room that one visitor has already remarked on!If only Mr.Bumper were black and white....

i saw your exhibition in the city of angouleme, and it was really great, i can't tell you how much i love your work 'cause i didn't speak english really well, but, well, it is so much more than just some of beatiful drawing... and i'm gonna read your comics as soon as i can.
Correct me if I'm nuts, but isn't there a black and white Mr. Bumper in the works?
